£405.00

A three-day immersive landscape painting course centred around a creative response to one day spent slow-walking and drawing in the North York Moors.

Come and enjoy the majestic open expanses of the North York Moors, steeped in history and folklore, crossed by historic drove routes, and marked by ancient stones.

A whole day will be spent making a slow walk up a section of the Cleveland Way from Sneck Yate, walking up through ‘High Paradise’ before heading out onto the open moors where fabulous views can be enjoyed across the Vale of Mowbray to the East and over to Thorodale to the West. We will be walking the ancient Drove Road in the direction of the Black Hambleton before leaving the main path by the ruins of Lime Kiln House and circling back to our start point. Far reaching views in every direction along with a wealth of flora and fauna at our feet will provide endless inspiration.

As we walk, we will make drawings which explore composition, scale, and mark. You will be encouraged to create drawings which reflect your total sensory experience of place as well as to the sense of history and your interaction with the non-human world. These can be abstract or figurative in nature it is entirely up to you. Time will be spent collecting materials and colour notes from site as well as working with simple water-based media such as soft pastel, ink and water colour.

On returning to Lund Studios a further two days will be spent developing ideas from sketches and drawings from the first day using a variety of media. Time will be spent experimenting with scale, composition and media as well as accompanying slide presentations and discussions. Participants will then work towards final works which reflect their individual experience of the North York Moors.

Things to Note:

Participants must be prepared to be out for a full day in a variety of Yorkshire weather and come suitably equipped with wet weather gear. It is important that you are fit enough to undertake a steady 6 mile walk with one reasonable hill stretch and be physically able to sit in the open for periods of time. If you wish to discuss your suitability for this course, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with me to discuss.

Strong Winds or adverse weather may necessitate a change of route to a less exposed location.

Days run from 10am to 4pm.

Lunch and refreshments included, fresh from the Lund Studios kitchen.
