Experimental Landscapes - Mark making into painting | 14th and 15th September 2024

£255.00

Working directly from the late summer landscape around us at The Lund, you will be invited to create expressive, richly layered drawings and paintings which explore your personal response to place, be it abstract or figurative in style.

Working in simple and ‘disregarded materials’: old paint, spray paint and tester pots, graphite and charcoal together with marker pens, oil and soft pastels and anything else that comes to hand you will be encouraged to respond.

The emphasis will be on experimentation and the developing of a personal response through a layering of mark and gesture. Within a supportive group atmosphere, you will be encouraged by your peers to take risks and have fun.

We will begin by taking a look at a variety of work by artists such as John Virtue, Joan Mitchell and the abstract expressionists as well as examining other examples of contemporary artists who use a broad approach with mixed media some of whom work directly in the landscape.

Throw, scrape, drip, dribble, scratch, spray, cut, paste, stitch.

Work on found and repurposed surfaces, paper, cardboard packaging and unprimed canvas. Working on the wall or on the floor. Using homemade and unconventional painting implements, the choice is yours.

Limited to 8 to guarantee plenty of space we will be working in our new outdoor barn studio as well as directly in the landscape surrounding the Studios. Lunch and some basic materials will be included.
