A short creatively engaged walk from Sutton Bank Visitor Centre followed by a day of creative reflection at Lund Studios. A prefect way to unwind and enjoy being inspired by the natural world.

‘We shall not cease from exploration, and in the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we stared and know the place for the first time’  T S Eliot

Open to all levels this course is aimed at those who are interested is in spending time in the natural landscape by moving through it and engaging with it in simple creative ways.

Day 1

After meeting at the Visitor Centre we will set out to make a slow meandering walk along the Cleveland Way reaching Garbutt Woods to look back over the iconic vista once proclaimed by Turner to be the ’Finest View in England’. This is a largely flat route with areas of slightly uneven terrain in places but classed as an easy walk. Along the route you will be encouraged to respond to place through a series of creative prompts using mark making, words and simple materials. We will look at ways of using ‘local’ colour and making simple paint from natural materials.

Day 2

At Lund Studios

Building on the sketches and drawings from the previous day we will create a mixed media concertina work, a map drawing, and a text work. Work can be as figurative or abstract as you wish.

All materials supplied.

Participants must be able to undertake a steady 4 mile out and back walk along the Cleveland Way. The path is fairly level and slightly undulating.

You must come equipped with wet weather gear and be prepared to spend time outside in all weathers. We will hope for good weather but even in September it can be cold and windy.

Lunch and refreshments included.
